Collecting the Exotic Talk: The Birds

Leeds Castle’s very own Head Curator, Sue Prichard, and the Leeds Castle Falconry team, will discuss the rich and varied history of the birds at Leeds Castle.

Exotic birds have a long history at Leeds Castle.  Eleanor of Castile, first wife of Edward I introduced aviaries in the grounds.  Like most medieval queens, she kept falcons for hunting. But she also kept other birds, from Sicilian parrots to nightingales.

Olive, Lady Baillie had a particular passion for birds, collecting prints and studies of songbirds.  She, too, reintroduced aviaries onto the Estate, filled with exotic and colourful toucans and macaws, as well as flamingos.

This talk is included in the price of your admission ticket, however we do require all those interested in participating to sign up via the link provided.
