We are seeking an experienced greenkeeper to join the existing team of two, who can bring considerable knowledge and practical ability to the role. Qualified to level 3, and with experience of working in the role of greenkeeper, the role will also include leadership and supervisory responsibilities.
With a 7 day per week rota to fulfil on a 1 in 3 week basis (Weekends course and safety checks) our small team must work effectively and efficiently to deliver a first class course for our members at all times. Our greenkeeping team must work well with external consultants/specialists, and with the wider team at Leeds Castle to present the golf course to a high standard, and to integrate it with the diverse range of events, activities and disciplines on the estate.
This requires skilled use of resources, from machinery maintenance and use, through staff and volunteer deployment, to agronomy and environmental management. An estate as varied as Leeds Castle means that there will also be times when the greenkeeping team help out elsewhere on the estate, primarily with other grounds care activities. You will be required to have a strong set of skills and knowledge to operate at an advanced level, where supervisory and/or specialist technical and agronomic skills are required.
You will have developed these skills not only through training, but whilst working as a greenkeeper at a skilled level, building an intuitive knowledge of daily and longer-term sports turf care to a high standard. You will have the necessary skills to supervise the greenkeeping team and the maintenance of the golf course, in the absence of the Head Greenkeeper/Golf Course Manager, and will assist in the planning, supervising and implementing the maintenance, care and overall appearance of a golf course in line with the course requirements.
You will foster cooperative and creative relationships with external specialists, and with the wider team at Leeds Castle. You will enjoy actively engaging with customers, and as good communicator will work with members, colleagues and volunteers to promote the course and listen to feedback. Qualifying Requirements BIGGA Full Membership (required within role) Level 3 qualification in Advanced Greenkeeping (or equivalent experience/qualification).
A minimum of 5 years working as a greenkeeper directly responsible for the care of sports turf and associated areas PA1, PA2 and PA6 spray certificates Experienced machine operator Full Driving License Other qualifications are desirable, such as chainsaw certificates, first aid at work, tractor/atv user, and should be shown in CV’s on application with a covering letter.
